New member Spotlight - Theresa Whitt Whitmore

Another Sunday and another great new member for the ADO team! Today's spotlight is on Theresa Whitt Whitmore who sells her dolls as Sycamore Moon Studios. Theresa is a self taught artist who makes paperclay, polymer clay, and needle felted dolls, as well as plushies and puppets...as you can see she's a woman of many talents! And whatever the medium, her dolls all have wonderfully unique and whimsical personalities. You can find more examples of Theresa's work in her Etsy shop, on her blog, and at her flickr stream. Welcome to the team Theresa!

New member Spotlight - Alexander Mergold

We have some new members in ADO again and so for the next few weeks I'll be introducing them here in our blog. This week we have Alexander Mergold, an extraordinary doll artist and puppet maker from Canada, who sells under AMCreatures. His work is simply breathtaking and I encourage you to look at his website for some truly amazing dolls, I spent a considerable amount of time there this morning admiring his fabulous work! His dolls can also be found in his Etsy shop, where he also sells sculpting tools, and in his blog...check there to see some monster puppets that will brighten your day. Welcome to the team Alexander!

Saturday's Vintage Video!

Fingerbobs was a British children's television programme made by the BBC in 1972. The first episode was broadcast on 14 February 1972  as part of Watch with Mother. The show was created by Joanne and Michael Cole.  Only thirteen episodes were ever made.

Presented by mime artist "Yoffy" (played by Canadian actor Rick Jones), each ten-minute episode told a story centred around a paper finger puppet animal, and usually involved collecting various items (such as pebbles or feathers) to make up another object at the end.

I loved this when I was a kid ~ I'm not so sure now ~ It's a little odd!

With most of North American having a cold snap almost everyone has rosy cheeks just like this collection of art dolls Abi at AnAngelatMyTable has put together.

Saturday's Vintage Photographs

Having just arrived back from England, I thought I would share some vintage photos of my hometown, Cambridge.   It's best known as the home of the University of Cambridge, one of the world's premier universities - 31 Colleges in total.
Settlements have existed around this area since before the Roman Empire. The earliest clear evidence of occupation were the remains of a 3,500-year-old farmstead discovered at the site of Fitzwilliam College. There is further archaeological evidence through the Iron Age, a Belgic tribe having settled on Castle Hill in the 1st century BC.
The first major development of the area began with the Roman invasion of Britain in about AD 40.
In 1801 the population of Cambidge City was estimated at 10,087.  According to the 2001 United Kingdom census, the City's population was 108,863.

Couldn't resist adding a current photo of a snow covered traditional telephone box and post box!

Happy Saturday ADOers!
